Age Divisions & Events

CJCA offers a variety of age-appropriate events, ensuring a safe, exciting, and fair competition for all contestants. Age divisions are based on the contestant’s birthdate as of January 1, 2025.​​

6 Years Old & Under
Boys & Girls Events:

  • Goat Undecorating

  • Stick Horse Race

  • Dummy Roping

  • Stick Horse Barrel Racing

  • Mutton Busting

 

7 to 10 Years Old
Boys & Girls Events:

  • Barrel Racing

  • Pole Bending

  • Goat Tying

  • Breakaway Roping

  • Dummy Roping

  • Calf Riding

​11 to 14 Years Old
Girls Events:

  • Barrel Racing

  • Pole Bending

  • Goat Tying

Boys Events:

  • Goat Tying

  • Chute Dogging

  • Junior Bull Riding

Boys & Girls Events:

  • Breakaway Roping

  • Steer Stopping

15 to 19 Years Old

Participation & Event Requirements

To ensure everyone is prepared, here’s an overview of membership, sponsorship, and volunteer requirements for the season. For more details, please visit the Membership Page.

  • Membership: Annual dues must be paid before any rodeo participation.

  • Sponsorships: Each contestant must secure a minimum of $200 in sponsorships by March 1, 2025, to qualify for year-end awards. For details on sponsorships and downloadable forms for both the Robert Lea Memorial Rodeo and general sponsorships, please visit the Sponsorship Page. Here, you'll find both PDF forms for download and online sponsorship submission options.

Eligibility Requirements for Finals & Year-End Awards

  • Finals Eligibility:
    To qualify for the CJCA Finals Rodeo, contestants must be members in good standing. This includes paying their membership fee, meeting the $200 sponsorship requirement, and participating in at least half of the season’s rodeos plus one for each event they plan to compete in at the finals.

  • Year-End Awards:
    To be eligible for year-end awards, contestants must fulfill all finals eligibility requirements and complete a Volunteer Requirement: CJCA members and/or their parent or guardian must volunteer a minimum of five times in five different rodeo events or roles during the season. Additionally, contestants must compete in the finals for each event in which they want to qualify for year-end awards.
